Laura Rusche, Esq.
Laura Rusche excels at implementing the Mendelsohn Legal System and bringing people together. For more than a decade, Laura has successfully orchestrated employment and hiring opportunities for thousands of attorneys, law firms and in-house legal departments. She uses the experience, expertise and insight she gained as a commercial litigator for large Chicago law firms to help people improve their lives. A partner at Mendelsohn Legal, Laura earns the respect and trust of the clients she serves because she approaches her job with this guiding principle: an effective recruiter must take the time, energy and effort to learn everything she can about each individual candidate, law firm or legal department. This kind of commitment helps Laura build close, long-term relationships with her clients.
A confluence of factors flowed together, which allowed Laura to become a legal recruiter who receives high praise and sincere gratitude from those she assists. First, embedded in her DNA and personality is a burning desire to help people. For as long as she can recall, she has genuinely enjoyed hearing what others have to say and taking the time to understand their needs and desires. Second, Laura’s training in psychology and social work provides her with the ability and empathy to understand each person’s unique characteristics and career goals. Third, because of her extensive background and broad, deep knowledge about the legal profession, Laura knows which types of candidates will succeed within the culture of a particular law firm or legal department.
Although Laura maintains a special focus on the legal markets in the Midwest and Rocky Mountain regions, she places partners, associates and groups into law firms and in-house roles throughout the United States. She understands that every firm has its own special features, and she believes it is imperative for a recruiter to stay up-to-speed on the ever-changing atmosphere within those firms. This includes developing a comprehensive understanding of the types of attorneys who tend to succeed at a particular firm, along with accurate information regarding law firm revenues, profits, recent additions and departures. In short, she does her homework and takes pride in her broad market knowledge.
While many things distinguish Laura from other recruiters, she spends significant time editing and revising the resume and/or business plan of each candidate with whom she works, which is a part of the Mendelsohn Legal System. This allows her to market her candidates to potential employers in the strongest light possible.
A Chicago-native, Laura attended the University of New Hampshire, from which she graduated, cum laude, with a degree in psychology in 1995. She then earned a Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Chicago. In 1998, Laura enrolled at Loyola University Chicago School of Law, where she served as the Executive Editor of Student Articles for the school’s law review and graduated, cum laude, in 2001.
